Spring Training for Me: ‘67-’87
Like most players of today. I was not a fan of spring training. When I was a kid in my 20’s I didn’t need much training at all. My legs were young and always ready for a full sprint. I was never out of shape. I thought I had eternal life at 20 yrs old and figured I was gonna be “old” when I was 30. I planned to buy 10 cars over the 10 years I was hoping to play, and sell them when I had to retire when I got “old”, 30 yrs of age.
Believe it those were my thoughts. I did buy the 10 cars, but kept playing til I was 41 and an “old grey beard”. Hek, I coulda collected my pension at 45.
Spring training in 1967 was rude. We had an “military barracks hut”, that most all the blacks stayed in.

Final score
To the fan that shouted from the bleachers asking about Game Six versus the Dodgers: the final score was 8 to 4. Five of those runs came off my 3 home runs.
Today we won 6-1.
